Wellness Wednesday Inspiration!

I'd like to share some photo's and an article with you.  When I put a post on Facebook about me running, I get a lot of likes and sometimes comments such as good for you I could never run.  Well I think to myself why not so I ask them?  Sometimes I get well let me loose 10 pounds first or I'm going to walk for a couple weeks first then maybe I'll go running with you.

The thing is, I have walkers pass me when I run, ok..... WALKERS ........DID YOU HEAR THAT W.A.L.K.E.R.S.?  My run isn't going to be the same as the next person and when I ask people to run with me it's not to keep at my pace.  It's to have that support, motivation, inspiration, and maybe a little competition to push me further. My pace is like a 16 minute mile LOL!

I really hope that this article speaks to someone's heart.  You want to start walking that's great!  Your way ahead of that person just sitting on the sidelines watching and not doing!  I can't wait to be able to get back out there and run! It's so hard to explain but running does something to you, it gets into your psyche, cleanses you of your daily stress, renews you.

Okay I guess I can explain it, so I want to know who's going to take that first step?   My first suggestion is, get a pair of quality running sneakers.  I wear Brooks they are excellent sneakers for walking/running.  See if there's a store in your area that is geared towards runners and have them fit you for the proper size.  If your near Buffalo Fleet Feet is a good option.  I know this sounds silly but some people have been wearing the wrong size, style for years but you won't realize it until you start running and your toes start going numb!

Wear comfortable work out pants, NOT SHORTS especially if your big like me you'll be thankful and a dry fit top.  Dress in layers if it's cool out make sure you can take off a layer if you start getting too hot.  In cold weather you may want a hat or something to cover your ears and gloves.

Get yourself a water bottle you can wear on your hand or clip around your waist, or get yourself some rehydrate gels to have if needed to give you a boost while running.   Get that playlist compiled, download a running app for beginners.  Like Couch to 5k it coaches right along while playing your music and slowly builds you doing intervals of walking and running until you can continuously run for entire 3.5 miles.

Please remember I'm no expert and I didn't have anyone to give me all this advice so please take it for just that advice.  You will find what works for you and what doesn't. Well with that said enjoy this article I do hope it inspires you!

Getting Back on Track

There's a reason why the name of my blog is "Diary of a Wimpy Dieter.  As like many of you the warm summer evenings lead your temptations to stopping for an ice cream cone or a delicious ice coffee.  Maybe you throw back one too many cold ones or sipped a few too many glasses of wine.  All that adds up to wasted calories, extra pounds, and clothes that are fitting a little too snug!

So it's time to get back on track!  I've resumed my daily morning routine which consists of my mommy juice (SPARK) mixed with a Slim (appetite control/energy), this combination gives me my energy and helps to curb my appetite.  I take my OmegaPlex (Fish Oil), Probiotic Ultra Restore, CorePlex w/Iron (Mutli-Vitamin), L-Lysine (to prevent my nasty cold sores).  I mix my drink up first thing so I can start sipping on it right away and taking my supplements.  Did you know that drinking a glass of water first thing when you wake up rev's up your metabolism?

At some point I will work on getting back outside to walk/run but for now my feet issues (plantar fasciitis) I am watching work out videos at home.  I usually do like a 20 minute work out then get ready for the day.

My morning snack is usually a piece of fruit, most likely an apple or banana.  Sometimes I have granola or Greek Yogurt depending on if I'm still hungry.  It's always good to have extra on hand so if you are still hungry you have something good to eat eliminating the urge to run to the vending machine.

Lunch is always a challenge.  I am bad about preparing my lunch so I usually end up running out to get a bite.  This is another goal I've set to get better prepared for the day before I leave for work.  The picture below is of Salmon Caesar Salad.  This is super delicious and the dressing is homemade.  It's the perfect amount of dressing and is light.  You can make this for dinner and take the left overs for lunch the next day.

My dinner is usually chicken grilled or baked with a steamed veggie and potato or rice.  I love making oven roasted potatoes (white or sweet) usually both since my kids aren't the biggest sweet potato fans.  I use my own spices and avoid using pre-mixed whenever possible.  Here's some pics of my dinner creations!

The key is portion control, eating low fat, low calorie foods.  Drink lots of water, should be half your body weight ='s how many ounces a day. So a person who weigh's 150 should drink 75 ounces or more a day of water.

The First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school for my boys, the memory making started early this year with Braden's bus not stopping for him.  So it's back to the grind for my now Senior, and 6th Grader!  It was nice to have the morning, aka bathroom to myself for a couple months but glad to have them back on a schedule.  Oh and being a single mom I don't get much time to myself so it's nice to send them off to bed and have my "me" time.

So getting back to this morning, there's no need for an alarm clock anymore when your bed is on the opposite wall of the bathroom and the fact that children don't know how to be quiet.  So I'm laying there and see that I have 25 minutes until my alarm goes off.  Do I stay in bed, or get up?  Maybe try and fall back asleep?  Then the knock at the door, "Hi I'm leaving".  "Already", I say, "Why"?  "Senior Breakfast".  So I get up so I can take the momentous 1st Day of School Pic, give him hugs and try not to cry.
Evan - Senior
Now I hear the other one climbing out of bed, the excitement of starting 6th Grade is quite obvious with all the little noises and humming he's making.  So I decide to stay up and proceed to walk into his room to say good morning and ask him if he wants breakfast.  He says "no I'll eat at school", so I remind him to wear something that matches and to brush his teeth.
Braden - 6th Grade

I hop in the shower and finish getting myself ready for the morning and tell Braden it's time to head down for the bus but first I've got to get that 1st Day of School Pic of him.  We go outside take the pic say our good byes and he heads down.  I finish up getting ready for work check out the window and see Braden still there, ok it's the first day it's a little late.  Well by the time I was heading out the door Braden still hadn't left so I waited with him.  It's now 20 minutes late, call the bus garage they'll send someone for him.  I said don't bother I'll just take him to school as I'm already going to be late for work.

So finally got Braden to school and only 10 minutes late for work.  My Boss is pretty understanding and I just made up the time at the end of the day.  I did call the bus garage to ask what happened and made it clear that I was not happy, the reply I got was epic "It's the first day of school, cut us some slack". Cut you some slack?   If we were a new stop on the route, ok.  If we didn't live above a daycare where you have to actually pull in the parking lot to pick up and not just stop on the road, ok.  If you hadn't replied oh yes Braden Fix I know exactly who he is you live above Precious People right?

The morning events definitely set the ton of the day and led me to eat poorly.  Emotional eating is my biggest weakness!  I try but getting back to my happy place always includes food.  Unfortunately I did not prepare my meals and snacks for the day.  Had I done that I would've at least ate good food and not over eat.  I did stick to water at least, always try to find the positive and not dwell on the negative.  Tomorrow's a new day, I will wipe the slate clean and start a brand new day.
